Look For Less: Scarlett Johansson

The Dolce and Gabbana blouse worn here by Johansson will cost you $650 alone, but this recreation will help you achieve the same look for $148! Let's review the key elements of this outfit, so you can recreate one that suits you! [1] The print of the blouse is really important because it breaks the solid block of color from the skirt; however, the print you choose should be a mild one, like the Charlotte Russe version I chose. [2] The fit of the skirt is the most essential part of the outfit. The top band of the skirt should fit around the smallest part of your waist, and the length should end right at your knee caps. If your skirt is longer than this it will make you look stumpy! Check out my pick from Spiegal! [3] The key to the shoe is the color. To achieve Johansson's look you want to pick a shoe that is in the same warm color family as the skirt, but has enough contrast. My pick is from Chinese Laundry, and has some black detailing to compliment the Jessica McClintock clutch! [4] The red lipstick is the "pop" of this outfit. Everything else is pretty warm and mild, so the red lipstick will really brighten up your overall look. If you are tanner or more olive skinned than Johansson, go for berry tones that have a pink undertone. My choice is by Maybelline, and I chose this one because of its moisture component =) Make sure you don't let the lipstick get on your teeth!

Great Deal: Ulta

Would You Wear...Over The Knee Boots?

Whenever I think of over the knee boots, I immediately think of Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman. I always admired her leather boots, but she was a stripper, so I automatically dismissed them from being something I would want to actually wear. Who wants to look like a hooker, right?! Anyways, I am so happy that over the knee boots have been transformed into a wearable, chic item. I personally like the stiletto version, but the flat kinds are very practical and perfect for trekking through rain and snow. Would you wear these? Which kind or color do you prefer?

Here's the links to the items featured above:

Trend Alert: White Denim

White denim is really in this summer and can be a transitional piece for early fall wardrobes. My favorites are in the form of a bootcut jean and in a denim jacket. What do you think?

A dozen items for $1,000...

Back-to-school shopping season is coming up and coincides with a ton of wish list items. As a broke college student, I probably will probably only buy one or two small things, but it's always fun to dream.

If I had $1,000 this is what I would buy. What would you buy with $1,000? Post links in the comment section with your faves!

How To: Dress Christian Lacroix

One of my favorite collections for this fall is Christian Lacroix's monochromatic assortment of artful pieces. Christian Lacroix is a French designer who originally studied 18th century art in Paris, France. He once said:

“For me, elegance is not to pass unnoticed but to get to the very soul of what one is.”

His fall 2009 collection is very ready-to-wear. I am a college student on a budget, so although I may not always be able to afford the latest and greatest, I can draw inspiration from collections like Lacroix's. Here are my favorites, enjoy!

Here are some pieces that are CL in style for those of you who want to achieve the same look on a budget ;)

1. Spiegel Blazer $49
2.
Development Purple Shimmering Jacket (from chickdowntown) $237

1. Sara Berman Boyfriend Blazer from Joan Shepp $385
2.
Newport News Single-breasted blazer $49

Would You Wear: DVF Pom Pom Hats

Diane von Furtsenberg's pom pom hats are the new "it" item in her Fall 2009 collection called Nomad. Critics are saying they are happy DVF is doing something that isn't safe. A blog that reports on New York Fashion Week said:

[Nomad] says wear all my clothes at once so I don’t need a suitcase when I travel...some people will disagree, but I don’t find this [collection] particularly interesting.

What do you think? Would you wear the pom pom hat?
