Off Season Shopping

This picture was taken in New York City back in December of 2008, but Cameron is timelessly fresh in her beret and coat. I couldn't resist putting together a recreation of the outfit-an outfit that will cost you under $200!!! Amazing, right? Best of all, even if you aren't in cold weather, now may actually be the best time to buy winter clothing. Why? As Spring collections are coming in, Winter items are traveling to the sales rack. In fact, the majority of the items I found for this look were on sale!
Coat: Newport News, Metallic cocoon coat –Was $89 Now $49
Bag: Target, Bueno Patent Croc Ring Tote - Black – $48
Denim: Charlotte Russe, Trousers – $29.99
Beret: Charlotte Russe, Cable Knit Beret – Was $12.95 Now $6.49
Scarf: Thomas Pink, Brocade Pattern Scarf – Was $130 Now $49
Lip Balm: Smith's Minted Rose Lip Balm by Rosebud Perfume Co. – $5.90

Here are some rules to follow when off season shopping:
1) Buy items that will still be in style next season. I would stick with neutrals, as some trends-such as military coats and plaids- may or may not make it back next season.

2) Be an investigator! Some items may be on the sales rack because they are missing a button, have unraveled stiching, etc. Minor tears (such as a small rip from a security tag) may be worth the purchase, but don't get bargain greedy and buy something that just isn't fixable!

3) Try it on! Some people think oh, for that price I'll definitely get it without trying it on. This is a big no-no, especially for off season buying. You must, must, must try it on! Ask yourself if the piece will work with a variety of chilly season items, such as boots, scarves, and different kinds of bottoms (think trousers vs. bootcut jeans, etc)
